Prep Cook / Assistant Kitchen Manager
We are hiring a prep cook to handle kitchen operations in the evening at our Market Street location. This job is unique in that it's primarily a kitchen role but includes a bit of front-of-house counter-service. This role will provide you with exposure to all elements of the business and serves as excellent training for a future management role.
About the Job
A typical day looks like this:
- Arrive at 11am and assist with tying up any loose ends prior to our bustling lunch service.
- Work on the FOH service line interacting with and serving customers from noon-2pm.
- When lunch dies down around 2pm, you'll transition to the BOH where you'll handle food prep for the following day and intermittently handle cooking food replenishments for the FOH via our combi-ovens.
- At 7pm you'll shut down the kitchen and be be out the door by 8pm, if not earlier.
Some key responsibilities of the job:
- Work a set schedule from 11am-8pm, Monday-Friday.
- Work with our Culinary Director to learn to prep and execute all of our recipes.
- Assist in keeping the walk-in and dry storage areas expertly clean and organized. You'll need to be able to lift heavy boxes (40+ lbs).
- Participate in our bustling lunch service in the Front of House, providing fast-paced counter-service while making customers smile.
- Knock out prep items in the PM preparing for the following day.
- Use a combi-oven to cook small batches of product to replenish the service line in the PM.
- Close down the kitchen, chip in with some dishes, and thoroughly clean your work area before leaving.
About You
The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience working in a kitchen that makes food from scratch. Solid knife skills are required as is an open mind and a desire to learn. You should be the type who craves organization and order but can deal with the chaos that sometimes occurs in a small, busy kitchen. It will also help if you legitimately like eating Real Food. We prep and cook hundreds of pounds of fresh produce and meats each day and make all of our dressings and sauces in house. So, the more you love Real Food and scratch-cooking, the more this role will resonate with you.
About Pay & Perks
This is an hourly role that will pay between $12-$15 depending on experience. You'll get a solid 40 hours per week with no late nights or early mornings. You'll also get the weekends off, since the store is closed. You'll enjoy a delicious meal during each shift and the opportunity to grow into a management role should you so desire.
